helper, a woman of valor.

But that makes the next question unavoidable.

If Eve was so strong, how did the Fall happen?

Why did the Ezer — the rescuer, the mirror, the strength of Adam’s hand — fall first?

The Bible gives a clear, unsettling answer.

The serpent did not go after Adam.

He went after the Ezer.

Genesis 3:1 says, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.”

And he said to the woman — not to the man — “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

The serpent targeted Eve because she was the strategic asset.

In military terms, you don’t attack the fortress walls first.

You disable the strong right hand of the commander.

Satan knew that if he could deceive the Ezer, the whole army would fall.

And the text records the tragedy.

Eve listened.

She saw that the tree was good for food, a delight to the eyes, and desirable to make one wise (Genesis 3:6).

She took its fruit and ate.

But here is the detail most people skip.

The same verse says: “She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.”

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank"

Their eyes were opened.

They saw their nakedness and hid.

Shame entered where only innocence had lived.

Fear replaced trust.

And then God pronounced the curse.

To the serpent, God said: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15).

That verse is called the Protoevangelium — the first gospel.

It promises that the woman’s offspring will crush the serpent’s head.

Even in judgment, God does not abandon the Ezer.

He announces that her future child will destroy the very power that deceived her.

But the immediate consequence was catastrophic.

The Fall opened the door.

Sin entered like venom into a bloodstream.

Romans 5:12 says, “Just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”

That venom — pride, lust, violence, greed, every corruption — has flowed through every human vein since.

And it poisoned the relationship between the Ezer and her husband.

God said to Eve: “Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, and he shall rule over you” (Genesis 3:16).

This was not God’s original design.

The original design was ezer kenegdo — face-to-face, equal strength, mutual rescue.

The Fall twisted that into a desire to control and a rule by force.

Patriarchy as we know it is not God’s ideal.

It is a symptom of the venom.

So where does this leave us?

It leaves us with a sobering truth: strength does not make you immune to deception.

Eve was an Ezer — a divine-strength warrior — and she was still deceived.

Her power did not protect her from the serpent’s craft.

If anything, it made her a greater target.

The enemy does not waste his arrows on the weak.

He aims at the strong.

But the story does not end with the Fall.

The rest of the Bible is the story of God antidoting the venom.

He promises a seed of the woman who will crush the serpent’s head.

That seed is Jesus.

And Jesus, in turn, surrounded himself with Ezers.

Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna — women who supported his ministry from their own resources (Luke 8:1–3).

Priscilla, who alongside Aquila, corrected Apollos’s theology (Acts 18:26).

Junia, called “outstanding among the apostles” (Romans 16:7).

The Fall did not erase the design of the Ezer.

It wounded it.

And redemption restores it.

In Christ, Paul writes, “There is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).

The venom is being drained.

The Ezer is being raised again to her original place — not a ruler over Adam, not a servant under him, but the strength of his hand, face-to-face, rescuing and being rescued.

So here is the companion truth to the first article.

Yes, Eve was the Ezer — the powerful ally, the divine-strength helper.

But even the strongest hand can be deceived.

And when it is, the whole world falls.

That is not an indictment of womanhood.

It is a testament to how much God entrusted to her.

The serpent did not bother with the rib.

He went straight for the right hand.

Because he knew: take down the Ezer, and the army collapses.

But the gospel says: the Ezer gets the last word.

Her offspring crushes the serpent’s head.

The venom is cured.

And the strength of God’s hand is finally, fully, forever restored.

Like this pour? Let it breathe. Let it burn. You tell yourself it’s theirs to deserve.

But here’s the Q of the night: What if your hate has been drinking from your glass the whole time?

Psychology is finally catching up to what ancient wisdom knew: holding onto hate for others is a fast track to self-hatred. Because your subconscious? It doesn’t really do “them” vs. “me.” It just feels the venom.

And God – who invented the subconscious before we had a word for it – laid this out in Mark 11 like a bartender sliding you a coaster of truth.

Let’s talk. Pour something strong. We’re going in.

Thanks for reading Qocktails & Qonversations! Four reasons your “righteous anger” is actually a mirror.

1. Projection: The Shadow in Your Glass

Carl Jung and Hermann Hesse (two guys who definitely overthought things at bars) said: whatever you despise in someone else? That’s probably your own repressed garbage.

You can’t stand their arrogance? Look closer. You might hate the same arrogance hiding in your own chest. We project so we don’t have to confess.

2. Universal Logic: The Trapdoor

Dr. Akshad Singi puts it simply: if you believe “flawed people deserve to be hated,” congrats – you just wrote a rule. And guess who’s flawed? You. That logic will eat you alive the second you slip up.

3. Subconscious Mirroring – Your Brain Can’t Spell “Them”

Your subconscious doesn’t do pronouns. When you rehearse “they are worthless,” your mind registers “worthlessness.” No target. Just toxin. Over time, you become the target.

4. Self-Protection as Self-Deception

Sometimes we hate others because hating ourselves is too real. It’s easier to rage at your ex than to sit with your own shame. But that’s a leaky dam, darling. The self-hatred always seeps through.

The takeaway? Unforgiveness isn’t a weapon. It’s a boomerang.

Round 2: Mark 11 – Jesus Knew Before Jung Did

Okay, now slide over to Scripture. Mark 11. The Fig Tree. The Temple. And one line that should make you set down your drink:

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" forgive you your sins.” (Mark 11:25)

At first, that sounds like divine blackmail. Forgive or else?

No. Jesus wasn’t twisting God’s arm. He was diagnosing yours.

See, God doesn’t need to withhold forgiveness. But if you’re standing there praying while clutching a grudge, your heart is in judgment mode. And you cannot receive grace through a clenched fist.

Jesus basically said: “Your subconscious already hates you for hating them. Don’t make me confirm it.”

The fig tree in Mark 11 had leaves but no fruit. Jesus cursed it. That’s you if you have prayer lips but an unforgiving liver. Appearances? Empty. God sees the root system.

Round 3: The Cross – The Ultimate Subconscious Rewire

Here’s where the Qocktails & Qonversations gospel comes in: hate boomerangs. But so does forgiveness.

Mark 11 isn’t a threat. It’s an invitation to stop drinking your own poison.

What if you tried this instead?

- Instead of projection → Ask: *What am I hating in myself right now?*

- Instead of universal hate → Apply universal grace. You’re flawed. They’re flawed. Same boat.

- Instead of subconscious mirroring → Rehearse forgiveness out loud. Your brain can’t tell fake from real. Say it until it sticks.

- Instead of self-protection → Let God be your bouncer. You don’t need the armor of hatred when the Father’s already got your back.

When Jesus said “forgive so you can be forgiven,” He wasn’t being stingy. He was clearing the bar tab. You can’t order grace if you’re still charging others for their sins.

Last Call: The Only Hate That’s Safe

Is any hate allowed? Sure. Hate injustice. Hate lies. Hate the cheap, watered-down version of love the world keeps selling.

But here’s the Q you won’t hear on a podcast ad: You cannot hate the sin without loving the sinner – unless you want to hate yourself. Because you are also a sinner. (Shocker, I know.)

Mark 11 forces the question we try to drown in chardonnay:

When you stand to pray… who haven’t you released?

Not for their sake. For yours.

God saw your subconscious before you did. He knows you project, judge, and mirror. And He built the only exit: Forgiveness.

Let the boomerang fall. Pick up the glass of grace instead. It’s deeper than you think – and it won’t come back to cut you.

Now it’s your turn. Drop a comment below:

What grudge are you quietly nursing that’s actually turned into self-loathing? And what would it look like to set it down – just for tonight?

No judgment. for Adam, they imagine a junior assistant.

They picture someone fetching coffee, taking notes, or filling in the gaps where Adam was deficient.

The English word helper feels thin, passive, and subordinate.

But the Hebrew text tells a completely different story.

The word God uses in Genesis 2:18 and 2:20 is עֵזֶר (Ezer) .

This is not a word of domestic servitude.

It is a word of military might and divine rescue.

Look at where else the Bible uses Ezer.

Psalm 20:2 says, “May he send you help from the sanctuary” — that word is Ezer.

Psalm 33:20 says, “Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield” — again, Ezer.

Hosea 13:9 says, “You are destroyed, O Israel, because you are against me, against your “helper” — Ezer.

In more than 80 percent of its Old Testament uses, Ezer refers to God himself acting as a rescuer, a shield, and a stronghold.
<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" is the strength of his hand because she is the wisdom in his peripheral vision.

Now let’s talk about Proverbs 31.

Most people hate this passage because they have been taught it is a to-do list for “good Christian wives.”

It has been weaponized to exhaust women.

But the Hebrew title of that passage is not “The Good Wife.”

The Hebrew title is אֵשֶׁת־חַיִל (Eshet Chayil) .

Chayil is the word for army, wealth, strength, valor, and might.

Eshet Chayil literally means “Woman of Valor” or “Woman of War.”

It is the exact same semantic field as Ezer.

Proverbs 31:10–31 is an acrostic poem.

In Hebrew poetry, an acrostic — where each line starts with a successive letter of the alphabet — is a way of saying, “This subject is complete from A to Z.”

Nothing is missing.

The poem is a public tribute sung at the city gates, as verse 31 makes clear.

It is not a private checklist.

It is a coronation anthem.

Notice the verbs the poem uses.

She considers a field and buys it (verse 16) — that is financial agency.

She perceives that her trading is profitable (verse 18) — that is economic intelligence.

She opens her mouth with wisdom (verse 26) — she is a theologian and a counselor.

Strength and dignity are her clothing (verse 25) — these are royal garments.

The climax of the poem is not “her children call her blessed.”

The climax is verse 31: “Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.”

Her husband is not her master.

He is her fan.

He sits in the gates — the place of judgment and power — and he is known because of her reputation.

He does not complete her; she launches him.

People focus on “she rises early” and “she does not eat the bread of idleness.”

But they miss the forest for the trees.

This poem celebrates a woman who runs an import-export business (verse 14, “like merchant ships”), manages real estate, employs staff, and dominates the textile market.

If a man did these things, we would call him a CEO.

Because a woman does them, we call her a “helper.”

The translation has lied to us.

So why did God create Eve?

Not because Adam was lonely in a way that required a servant.

Not because Adam needed a subordinate to organize the leaves.

God created Eve because Adam was incomplete, and only a strength corresponding to him could make him whole.

Eve is not the rib; she is the Ezer.

She is not the assistant; she is the Chayil — the army.

Proverbs 31 is not a leash; it is a scepter.

When we call a woman an Eshet Chayil, we are not politely saying she is a nice homemaker.

We are saying: You are the strength of his right hand. You are the rescue he did not know he needed. You are the image of God’s own helping presence, walking in linen and courage.

The fall in Genesis 3 twisted this design into domination.

But the original design in Genesis 2 and the redeemed vision in Proverbs 31 are clear:

To be a “helper” is to be the strongest thing in the room.

Like this pour? It is the silence of a well at noon, under the brutal heat of a Middle Eastern sun. While the world pauses to escape the heat, she comes—a solitary figure carrying the weight of a water jar and the heavier weight of a shattered reputation.

History, in its cruelty, forgot her name. The Gospel refers to her simply as “the woman from Samaria.” For two thousand years, we have reduced her to a stereotype: the woman with five husbands, the sinner, the outcast who came to draw water alone because she was not welcome in the company of “good” women.

But we have been reading her story wrong.

We have been so focused on her past that we missed her future. We have been so busy counting her sins that we have failed to witness her apostolic fire. When this unnamed woman met Jesus at Jacob’s well, she received living water and became a source of faith for an entire nation. She engaged the Messiah in the longest theological dialogue recorded in the New Testament. She became the first evangelist to the Gentiles. And the Church, finally recognizing her magnitude, gave her a name worthy of her legacy: Photini—the “Enlightened One.”

Qocktails & Qonversations is a reader-supported publication. High noon. The time when the sun is merciless and shadows disappear.

In the ancient world, women drew water in the cool of the morning or the evening. It was a social ritual, a time of laughter and gossip. But this woman came alone, under the scorching heat, because community was a luxury she could no longer afford. She felt like an outcast in her own village, haunted by failed relationships that left her lonely and empty.

And yet, seated upon the well—waiting for her—was a Jewish man. This was the first shock. Jews did not associate with Samaritans. They considered them half-breeds, heretics, unclean.

“Give me a drink,” He said.

It was a breach of every social protocol. A Jewish man speaking to a woman in public? Unthinkable. A rabbi speaking to a Samaritan? Forbidden. A holy man speaking to this woman? Scandalous.

However, Photini stood her ground. She did not cover her face and run. She stood her ground and pushed back.

”How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?”

She was sharp. She was brave. She was not afraid to question the divine.

Jesus, pleased by her passion, replied with a mystery: “If you knew God's gift and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

Thus began the longest, most theologically rich conversation Jesus ever had with a single soul.

She engaged Him in a debate on political matters, specifically the tensions between Jews and Samaritans. She engaged Him in a theological discussion about the true location of worship: this mountain or Jerusalem? She challenged His claims and pressed Him for answers. She was not a passive recipient of grace; she was an active participant in revelation. When Jesus looked at her troubled life and revealed her truth—“You have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your own”—He did not condemn her. He provided undeniable proof of His identity.

He revealed to her that He was the Messiah.

Think of the weight of that moment. Jesus had silenced demons with a word. He had confounded the Pharisees. But to this woman—this nameless, shamed, Samaritan woman—He spoke plainly:”I who speak to you am he.”

The Abandoned Jar: A Symbol of Transformation

The text says she left her water jar.

It is a tiny detail, easily missed, but it is the hinge upon which the entire story turns.

She came to the well for one reason: to get water. It was her purpose, her task, her survival. When she came face to face with Jesus, everything she valued was turned upside down. The jar—weighty, made of clay, and bound by time—suddenly felt insignificant. She had found a spring that would never run dry, and she couldn’t carry it alone.

She ran.

She ran back to the very city that had rejected her. She ran toward the people of color whose judgment she had been hiding from. She strode through the gates, proclaiming her testimony with unwavering confidence. She stood in the middle of the town square and declared:

”Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”

Do you see the audacity? She held up her broken past—the very thing that defined her shame—as evidence of His glory. “He knows everything I ever did,” she said, “and He loves me anyway. He stayed with me anyway. He revealed Himself to me anyway.”

Scripture says that “many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony.”

She was the first apostle to the Gentiles. Before Peter preached to Cornelius and Paul traveled the world, a woman from Sychar brought her entire town to Jesus.

From Photini to the Arena: The Fire That Could Not Be Quenched

From that moment onward, Scripture remains silent about her. But the voice of the Church, echoing through tradition, tells us that her fire never dimmed.

She was named Photini, meaning “the enlightened one” or “the luminous one,” because she was so filled with the light of Christ that it radiated from her. Tradition holds that she traveled far beyond Samaria, carrying the Gospel to Carthage in North Africa, and eventually to Rome.

It was in Rome that she met her final adversary: Nero.

The mad emperor, who had already tortured Peter and Paul, summoned Photini and her sons to his court. He tried to seduce her with promises and intimidate her with threats. He surrounded her with his philosophers and his daughters, hoping to break her resolve with logic and luxury.

He failed.

Photini, the woman who had debated Jesus at the well, debated the philosophers of Rome and converted them. Her fire spread to Nero’s own daughter and her servants, who abandoned the palace to follow Christ.

Furious, Nero commanded that she be subjected to torture. They beat her. They ripped apart her flesh. They threw her into a dry well to die slowly.

But the woman who had once come to a well in shame, now descended into a well in glory. She had spent her entire life moving from the physical water of Sychar to the living water of the Savior. In that dark pit, waiting for her martyrdom, she was not afraid. She was finally home in the deep, eternal spring of His presence.

A Call to Leave Our Jars Behind

Photini’s story is not just an ancient curiosity; it is a blueprint for discipleship.

She teaches us that our deepest shame is the very ground of our greatest ministry. The mistakes, failures, and secrets we hide are what Jesus wants to use to reveal His identity. He does not need our perfection; He needs our testimony.

She teaches us that women were not silent bystanders in the early Church. They were theologians, evangelists, and apostles. They carried the water of life to a dying world, often at the cost of everything.

And she teaches us that one encounter with Jesus is enough to reroute a life. A single conversation with the Savior can transform an outcast into an evangelist, a sinner into a saint, and an unknown woman into the “Enlightened One.”

So, what is your water jar?

What heavy clay vessel are you still carrying that makes you return to old habits? You need to let it go to embrace the good news.

Today, Photini stands at the edge of the well, pointing the way. Her eyes are bright. Her feet are swift. Her voice echoes across the centuries:

”Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”

Leave your jar. Run. A pastor stops a live-streamed worship service to publicly fire a young woman from the team. The sin that warranted this nuclear public shaming? According to the pastor herself, the woman had “hugged her differently than usual.”

Defending her actions with the proclamation, “I ain’t no punk,” this leader provides a perfect case study in how ego, insecurity, and a complete misuse of the Bible can poison a church.

We go straight to the scripture often weaponized in these situations—1 Timothy 5:20—and perform a full biblical autopsy. success—have we, as believers, lost a vital spiritual practice? In this compelling episode, Michelle Harding from Church of the King in Easton, Maryland, issues a passionate call for the church to rediscover the biblical power of lament.

Moving beyond the perception that lament is a sign of weak faith, Michelle proclaims it as a profound expression of Christ-centered solidarity. She invites us to experience the fullness of God by engaging with Him not only in victory but amid our shared human misery, reminding us that Christ is present there, too.

Grounded in the truth that God reconciled the world to Himself in Christ, this sermon challenges us to see lament as a selfless act: pouring out our hearts for the sake of others. With the prophet Jeremiah as a guide, Michelle points us toward the piercing relevance of his message, even recommending we read his “Temple Sermon” (Jeremiah 7) for ourselves to understand God’s heart-sick response to self-righteousness and apathy.

This is not a message of argument, but of proclamation—a call to embody God’s word in a broken world. Through the practice of Christ-centered lament, we participate in God’s healing work, becoming agents of the true “Balm of Gilead” for a chaotic and hurting world.

Key Themes:

Lament, Prophetic Ministry, Solidarity, Christ’s Presence, Spiritual Practices, Jeremiah, Hope, Healing.

#COTKEaston #Jeremiah7 #Truthtelling #EveryHeartWillKnow #SermonNotes

The Cry of Two Bloods: From Revenge to Reconciliation

Answering the Cry for Vengeance with the Cry for Grace

SheRize Media

What if the world’s deepest wounds could be answered by a different kind of cry? This episode, we’re breaking down a powerful sermon that starts with a stark contrast: the blood of Abel, which cries out for revenge, and the blood of Jesus, which cries out for reconciliation.

Pastor Michelle Harding takes us on a journey into the book of Jeremiah, with the weeping prophet who felt the ache of his people’s sin in his own heart.
